04.09.10 The excellent working ties between UEFA and the Latvian Football Federation were underlined during UEFA president Michel Platini's visit to the Baltic state.
Mr Platini emphasised the excellent working relationship with the LFF. "This is the first time that I am in Latvia as UEFA president, and I am happy to meet the people who are doing so much to develop football in the country", Mr Platini said. The UEFA president also met Latvia's president Valdis Zatlers, prime minister Valdis Dombrovskis and the mayor of Riga, Nils Ušakovs, during his visit.

03.09.10 Croatia kicked off UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Group F with a victory against Latvian National team in Riga. Mladen Petrić set the visitors on their way two minutes before the break, a lead which was doubled in the early stages of the second half by the head of Ivica Olić. Captain Darijo Srna confirmed Aleksandrs' Starkovs Latvian team first defeat in five competitive home games with a third late on. Latvia will meet Malta away on Tuesday, while Croatia will host Greece in Zagreb.
