Head of the Latvian Football federation Competition department and famous football club "Daugava Riga" ex-manager Janis Skredelis celebrated his 70th birthday on 29 December 2009 and shortly before that received Latvian presidential award from President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers.

Janis Skredelis received Latvia’s highest individual award "Order of Three Stars" for lifetime developing of Latvian football.

On 29 December most of the former and current Latvian football legendary players, coaches and Latvian sports authorities visited J.Skredelis at the event in Latvian Football Federation. In honour of this birthday, a special friendly match was organized between Latvian National team and star players of the 1990-ties. Mihails Zemļinskis, Aleksandrs Isakovs, Oļegs Blagonadeždins were a few who came up on the pitch against Janis Skredelis managed "Daugava Riga" team veterans of the 80-ties - with famous players S.Vicehovskis, J.Andrejevs, I.Stepanovs and others. In this match a 3:2 victory was held by younger generation.
