LFF News: Michel Platini comes to Riga

Visit of the UEFA president Michel Platini and start of the EURO 2012 qualifying campaign are the main headlines in the Latvian football life last days. This is the first time that Mr Platini came to visit Latvia in his elected role of President of UEFA. On September 03 Platini is invited for the meeting with the country's President Valdis Zatlers, later together with the Riga City Council representatives UEFA president will participate in a new mini-pitch ground opening in Riga, but in the evening he will attend the 2012 European Championship qualifying tournament game between LATVIA and CROATIA at the Skonto stadium.

From the other news – Latvian Football federation together with it’s general sponsor “Latvijas Mobilais telefons” organized a football tournament “O!Karte Cup” for the U-8 kids from all country in August where the main goal was to discover new talented young players, motivate them to play football and become a professionals in the future. Eight teams – winners of the preliminary rounds competed in the final tournament on September 03 in Riga, but later visited Skonto stadium for Latvia – Croatia match, meet UEFA president Michel Platini and attended other memorable activities. Music track “Mans Lielais Singls” from one of the most popular local hip-hop singers Gacho was appointed by the Latvian FA as the new National football anthem. This song currently is on the top of all official Latvian music charts. It’s music rhythm and words are very energetic and it describes the martial vigor with which You have to play football.
