Latvian National futsal team crowned Baltic Futsal champions as the such tournament between Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian national futsal teams was organised for the first time in the history at the end of December, 2008 in Ogre.

Aleksandrs Sketovs side showed a good quality game during both tournament days and overcame Estonia (13:0) and Lithuania (4:1) to take the first place in this historical even for Baltic futsal and hope to become a tradition in the future.

A fact that the audience number of 400-500 spectators coming to every tournament match in Ogres sports hall - for such small city in terms of population it was a great number improving the upgrowing popularity of futsal in Ogre and Latvia.

These matches against Estonia and Lithuania in Ogre were as the preparation for European championship qualifying campaign where Latvia will play in group B tournament in Bulgaria in February 2009. Neighbour Estonia is in the same ECh qualifying group with host Bulgaria and Armenia, where only top two teams from the group will qualify for the main round.
