On Friday, December 18th in Latvian Football federation's organised "Gala evening of 2009 football season" were named winners in overall 18 nominations in Latvian football of the season 2009.
"Queens Park Rangers" and Latvian national team defender Kaspars Gorkšs has been named as the best player in Latvia, while forward Sintija Greijere from "SK Liepājas metalurgs" took the krown of the best female football player in 2009.
Latvian champions side "SK Liepājas metalurgs" forward Kristaps Grebis has been named the Latvian championship "LMT Virslīga" footballer of the season. Grebis took also the best forward award and best striker award after scoring a number of 30 goals this season - the third best result in Latvian championship history.
Latvian national team head coach Aleksandrs Starkovs after team's succesfull World Cup qualifying campaign was named as the best coach in Latvia in 2009.
Meanwhile national team captain Vitālijs Astafjevs recieved a special golden ring from LFF in gratitude of 158 games played in Latvian national team - current European record, as well.

7) Best player in the "First league" championship – Igors Avanesovs ("FK Kauguri PBLC" – 24 goals)
8) Best match organisation (club) – FK Ventspils
9) Latvian best U21 player in LMT Virslīga – Jevgēņijs Kosmačovs (FK Ventspils and Latvian U21 team captain)
10) Best referee in Latvia – Andrejs Sipailo (Daugavpils)
