SK Metalurgs Liepaja and FK Dinaburg achieved narrow victories in the 9th round matches were played in Latvian Virsliga championship on Monday.

Metalurgs Liepaja only beat guests from Riga Daugava thanks to a single goal by Daniel Kastner.

It was expected that last year’s Latvian second team won’t have much problems against Daugava, who only has three points from seven games, but the Liepaja club had a tough time.

Metalurgs played better, but guests from Riga also had a few chances during the game. The only goal was scored at the end on the first half, in the 38 minute.

After this victory Metalurgs took the lead in Virsliga after first circle. In the other match of the day FK Dinaburg achieved a hard victory over outsiders SK Blazma Rezekne (1-0) in Daugavpils. Jurijs Sokolovs scored the winner from the penalty spot.
