Aleksandrs Starkovs side took on 11th place team in FIFA ranking and Euro 2008 participant ROMANIA on Wednesday, August 20th in Urziceni stadium, Romania. The only goal was scored from the penalty spot on 51th minute after Nicolae Dica's striker.

New stadiums in Daugavpils and Salaspils

Second largest Latvian city Daugavpils got a new stadium with a great opening party from its highest division football club FC Daugava, and new stadium was opened close to Riga - in Salaspils - between two high schools. Both stadium building was notably supported by both city councils and Latvian Football Federation (LFF).

FK Ventspils has to overcome Brann to meet Olympique de Marseille

If Latvian champions FK Ventspils goes through to UEFA Champions League third qualifying round they will face there club Olympique de Marseille from France. The winner of FK Ventspils - Brann matchup will be decided on Tuesday, August 5th in Ventspils with Norvegian side coming to returning match with a one goal advantage.
