IF Elfsborg held on to move past FK Rīga into the UEFA Cup

Article from balticleague.com

FK Rīga gave a decent performance against IF Elfsborg but failed to score in the return leg which sent the Swedish side through to UEFA Cup second qualifying round.

Having lost the first leg away 0:1 FK Rīga was under pressure to make a good result at home. The Latvian club had to change their coach between the two legs when Genadijs Morozovs decided to leave, which left assistant Andrey Manannikov as a caretaker.

Andrei Agafonov and Grigori Chirkin had good chances to put the home side ahead just before the end of the first half, but did not make the most of them. The second half was controlled already by the Swedes and after defender Dimitrijs Halvitovs got his second yellow card six minutes from time everything became clear.

The match ended with a goalless draw which sent Elfsborg through with the aggregate score of 1:0.
