UEFA affiliation: 1992
FIFA affiliation: 1922

Latvian Football Federation (LFF) was founded in 1921 and actively organized the main football events in country until 1940. Just after regaining independence LFF restarted its work in 1991. Today more than 50 people are involved in the daily federations work with main football events organizing and leading in Latvia.

Current president of LFF is Guntis Indriksons, but the daily work is leaded by General Secretary Jānis Mežeckis.

Peak of Latvian football was "EURO 2004" final tournament in Portugal with our National Team. All around the country everybody was with football and no doubt that year was the golden year for football in Latvia.

Year 2006 was a jubilee year in Latvian football - there were 100 years passed since football was first mentioned in Latvian media. In honor of that, LFF issued the second book in “Latvian Football History” series. Also DVD movie was produced and most of the events with LFF taking part last year were under the 100 year branding.

Latvian National football, team history starts in 1922, when it was taken in FIFA family. From 1922 until 1940 team played exactly 99 matches, when Latvia was joined in Soviet Union. After regaining independence in 1991, Latvian National team was taken back in FIFA shelter. The match nr 100 for Latvian National Team was friendly match against Romanian football players on the April 8, 1992. In the end of 2001 Latvian National Team played against National Team of Russia which was match Nr 200 in our history.
